A stochastic model of balsam fir abies balsamea bud phenology utilizing maximum likelihood parameter estimation

A stochastic model of bud phenology was developed, utilizing a maximum likelihood technique for parameter estimation. The model assumes that bud development is really a continuous stochastic process even though buds are observed as having reached discrete development stages. The model was fit to balsam fir data collected in Quebec [Canada]. Degree-days provide a better predictor of balsam fir bud phenology than does Julian date.
