A study of genetic polymorphism of transferrins in blood serum of cows of the bulgarian red cattle and its f 1 and f 2 crosses with the black and white cattle reacting positively and negatively to leukosis

The investigation was carried out with 589 cows of the Bulgarian Red Cattle (BRC) and its F1 and F2 crosses with the Black and White cattle (BWC). Cows were equalized on the basis of age and breed. The disorder was diagnosed after the method of Ouchterlony, described by Kosturkov [2], and applied in this country for leucosis control. Transferrin polymorphism was determined in blood serum of cows using the Kristiansson's method of starch gel horizontal electrophoresis, described by Makaveev [3]. It was found that: There was no relation between transferrin genotypes and alleles and resistability and susceptibility respectively of RBC cows and BWC .times. BRC F1 crosses to leucosis. In healthy BWC .times. BRC F2 crosses was encountered with highest frequency the heterozygous genotype TfAD and in the cows tht had positively reacted to leucosis the homozigous genotype TfDD. Consequently it could be assumed that resistability of those crosses to leucosis was linked with the heterozygous genotype TfAD and susceptibility with the homozygous genotype TfDD.
