A study on the current status and the improvement of formal and non formal education for upbringing young farmers

The objectives of this study were to identify and analyze the current status and problems of the project of upbringing young farmers in formal and non-formal education, and to suggest the effective directions for the establishment of the cooperation among formal and non-formal educational institutions. The major findings of this study were as follows; 1. Curricula of the agricultural high schools in Korea should be changed from the emphasis on theoretical farming technologies in the school farm to the farming practices on the advanced farm by employing of the characteristics of non-formal and community education. 2. The emphasis of rural youth's activities should be placed on its real program implementation rather than increase of number of memberships. Whereas the objective of this program should be focused on the graduates and drop-outs rather than students of the high schools. 3. The government, universities and agricultural development agencies should institutionally provide and support their facilities for the upbringing project of young farmers. Formal and non-formal education agencies for the upbringing young farmers should establish close cooperations among themselves at the various levels. There should be flexibility on the operation of financial support, change of program planning, pre and in-service training and follow-up guidance in upbringing young farmer programs.
