Absorption of potassium sodium and chloride in jute corchorus capsularis and corchorus olitorius seedlings occurrence of system ii of dual mechanism of ion transport

Accumulation of K+, Na+ and Cl- in the root and shoot of jute cultivars increased with increasing concentrations K+, Na+ and Cl- in the external medium from 0.5 to 25 mM. The uptake of K+, Na+ and Cl- reached a maximum value at 50 mM. Net influx of K+, Na+ and Cl- increased with the increase in activities of these ions in the external medium without any significant effect on transport index. The absorption of K+, Na+ and Cl- appears to follow system II of the dual mechanism of ion transport.
