Agenesis of the left lower lobe in a 73 year old man accompanying hemosputum and hemoptysis since boyhood

Agenesis of the left lower lobe in a 73 year old man accompanying hemosputum and hemoptysis since boyhood

Japanese Journal of Chest Diseases 45(8): 674-676

A seventy-three year old man had had complaints of hemosputum and hemoptysis since 13 years of age. He had been treated as pulmonary tuberculosis at first, and then as bronchiectasis. His chest X-Ray film showed an overinflation of the right lung, and bronchoscopic and bronchographic examinations revealed agenesis of the left lower lobe. The B5a, B5b and B4b of the left upper lobe were overdistended downward, and these bronchi were ectatic. The cause of long standing hemosputum was considered to be the agenesis of the left lower lobe.
