Alkaline phosphatase isoenzymes in body fluids and tissues

Alkaline phosphatase isoenzymes in body fluids and tissues

Jikeikai Medical Journal 33(2): 175-186

ISSN/ISBN: 0021-6968

An examination was conducted on alkaline phosphatase (ALP) isoenzymes in body fluids such as bile, feces, urine, etc. and tissues. ALP isoenzymes were identified by their antigenicity in thin layer polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. They were classified into liver type, small intestine type and feces type. 1) Three patterns of bile ALP isoenzymes were observed: One contained small intestine type ALP only; a second, small intestine type ALP + liver type ALP; and a third, liver type ALP only. 2) Feces type ALP was identified in feces and urine, and this was correlated with small intestine type ALP in antigenicity. 3) ALP isoenzymes of tissue extracts such as liver, duodenum, colon, kidney, etc. were examined, and their correlations with tissue extracts and body fluids were discussed.
