Downy mildew infection reduced the N content in the initial stages of infection in all the pearl millet lines, but reduction was more pronounced in susceptible 'HB-3'. P content decreased in HB-3 initially, but as disease progressed considerable accumulation of P was evident. A reverse trend was noted in 'B-282' and no alterations in P content were observed in '700651'. Ca, Zn and Fe concentrations were generally lower in infected plants of all 3 lines in their healthy counterparts. However, no appreciable changes were exhibited in resistant and moderately reesistant lines, although inoculations caused some disturbances. The pathogen enhanced accumulation of Mg in susceptible line during initial stages of plant growth. Infection had little influence on K status of any of the pearl millet lines.
