Abstract
The effect of fortification of lysine, methionine and isoleucine to defatted glandless cottonseed flour (CSF) was investigated using protein efficiency ratio (PER), biological value (BV) and fasting serum amino acid concentration as criteria. Neither the PER nor the BVC of the CSF fortified with lysine, methionine and isoleucine was significantly improved in comparison to that of casein. Among the 3 amino acids used for fortification, only lysine concentration of fasting serum of rats fed the fortified CSF diets were significantly improved (P < 0.05). Mean fasting serum threonine concentration was significantly lower in rats fed the fortified CSF diets than in those fed casein diet.
