An artificial diet for the larvae of green lacewing chrysopa scelestes banks neuroptera chrysopidae

The larvae of green lacewing, Chrysopa scelestes Banks were successfully reared for 3 generations on an artificial diet developed at the Bio-control Laboratory of the Division of Entomology. The larvae of the predator reared on artifical diet were comparable with those reared on the eggs of the laboratory host, Corcyra cephalonica Stainton. The total development of the predator from egg to adult was completed in 19.35 days on the artificial diet as against 17.00 days on the egg of C. cephalonica. The diet could be stored at 5.degree.-10.degree. C in a refrigerator up to a period of 38 days without affecting the larval period, pupal period and adult emergence. However, beyond 23 days of cold storage, the pupation was significantly affected.
