An experimental study of Salmonella dublin abortion in cattle

An experimental study of Salmonella dublin abortion in cattle

British Veterinary Journal 132(1): 60-65

Pregnant heifers were inoculated i.v. with S. dublin with the intention of inducing abortion in the absence of enteric disease. Two animals inoculated with 107 bacteria did not abort. Three inoculated with 1010 or 109 aborted and became severely ill. Ten of 12 animals inoculated with 108 bacteria aborted. In all animals abortion was preceeded by pyrexia. In the majority of animals there were 3 successive periods of pyrexia; abortion followed the 2nd period of pyrexia 8-11 days after inoculation.
