An outbreak of Cowpox caused by the Cowpox virus was reported on dairy farms located in the Municipality of Prata, State of Minas Gerais (Brazil). The disease affected men a well as bovines. The lesions, characterized by vesicles, were observed in the fingers, hands, fore-arms and arms of men and in the mammary glands and teats of cows. The diagnosis was based on the macro- and microscopic lesions, the animal-man-animal transmissibility and on the specific laboratorial tests. A differential diagnosis was done with herpes mamillitis, pseudo variola and variola through the vaccinia virus. The outbreak was undercontrol after three months of preventive measures.
