Annual biological rhythms of the genital organs of the zebu bull in the sudano sahelian zone of senegal

Annual biological rhythms of the genital organs of the zebu bull in the sudano sahelian zone of senegal

Comptes Rendus des Seances de la Societe de Biologie et de ses Filiales 173(1): 169-181

The seasonal fluctuations of Zebu genital organs were studied on 330 bulls from the Senegalese cattle raising area. For each organ, monthly frequencies of bulls from which sexual activity is higher than a definite value, were calculated and statistically treated. The application of rank correlations to these frequencies and to meteorological and feeding conditions shows that 6 annual biological rhythms can be pointed out: a constant rhythm for the ductus deferens and the glandula bulbo-urethralis, a photoperiodical rhythm for the development of the testicle glandula interstitialis, a multiperiodial rhythm for the secretory activity of interstitial glands that show a positive correlation with feeding, moisture and temperature, an aleroperiodical rhythm (from the Latin, alere, to feed) for genetic and epididymal activities, a simple humoro-periodical rhythm for prostate activity that shows a positive correlation with secretory activity of interstitial cells and a complex humoroperiodical rhythm for deferential ampulla and glandula vesicularis that show positive correlations with interstitial cells, moisture, temperature, rainfall and feeding.
