Antigenic characterization of hymenolepis nana and hymenolepis diminuta by immunodiffusion and immunoelectrophoresis tests

The antigenic composition of H. nana and H. diminuta had been studied by the immunodiffusion and immunoelectrophoresis tests. Saline extracts of the parasites from mice and rats experimentally infected, were tested against homologous and heterologous immunosera obtained from rabbits. The antigen of H. diminuta revealed 9 antigenic components, of which 4 were common to H. nana. The antigenic mosaic of H. nana from mice, showed 14 antigenic components, of which 8 were common to H. diminuta. These results suggest the close antigenic relation between both species studied.
