Assessment of avoidable loss in cotton gossypium hirsutum and gossypium arboreum due to sucking pests and bollworms

The avoidable losses on upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum Linn.) due to a sucking pests alone [mainly jassid, Amrasca biguttula biguttula (Ishida)], bollworms alone [pink bollworm, Pectinophora gossypiella (Saund.) and spotted bollworms (Earias vittella Fabr. and E. insulana Boisd.)] and suckling pests + bollworms were 1.19, 7.42 and 10.05 q/ha. The saving resulted in net profit of Rs 520, 2,633 and 3,877/ha respectively. The loss on Asiatic cotton (G. arboreum Linn.) due to bollworms was 8.96 q/ha, and the saving gave a net profit of Rs 3,215/ha.
