Association of am i locus with milk osmotic components in three fourth holstein one fourth zebu cows

Genotypes of amylase (AmI) locus, and lactose, Na and K milk concentrations were determined in 87 3/4 Holstein-1/4 Zebu cows. Statistical analysis of data was performed by ANOVA (minimum squares), considering number (2) and season (4) of calving effects. A significative effect of AmI locus on lactose and Na (P < 0.05), and K (P < 0.01) concentrations was observed. On the basis of these results, previous data is discussed in relation to the association of said serum enzyme with cattle milk production.
