Reaction centers (RC) from photosynthetic bacteria Rhodopseudomonas sphaeroides R-26 and Rhodospirillum rubrum, and RC-containing B890-complexes from Chromatium minutissimum were oriented in polyacrylamide gel. Light-minus-dark difference absorption spectra were measured in linearly polarized light at room temperature and redox conditions providing accumulation of photooxidized RC. Linear dichroism measurements showed that RC and RC-containing complexes were oriented as asymmetrical particles. The angles between the longest axis of a particle and various transition dipoles, and the angles between the shortest axis of a particle and various transition dipoles were estimated qualitatively.
