Bacterial diseases of fruit trees in portugal 1. pseudomonas syringae on stone fruit trees

Bacterial diseases of fruit trees in portugal 1. pseudomonas syringae on stone fruit trees

Agronomia Lusitana 39(4): 377-390

Dieback and canker of stone fruit trees in Portugal are caused in some places by fluorescent pseudomonads; in other places similar symptoms are associated with several species of fungi. Symptoms of the disease and characteristics of the bacterial strains are described. In tests that differentiated P. syringae from P. mors-prunorum, all strains yielded the reaction characteristic of P. syringae. In other tests, a majority of strains, not always the same, behaved as P. syringae. These bacteria probably variant forms of P. syringae. These variants are intermediates between this species and P. morsprunorum.
