Basidiospore germination of tricholoma matsutake i. effects of organic acids on swelling and germination of the basidiospores

The effects of stimulators on the basidiospore germination of Tricholoma matsutake were investigated. The acidic fraction of hot water extracts of Pinus densiflora needles enhanced swelling and germination of the basidiospores. Therefore, some water soluble organic acids were examined. Acetic, propionic, and (n-)butyric acids induced swelling of the basidiospores, but only butyric acid induced germination. The germination rate reached 8-23% upon addition of 0.005% butyric acid to the agar media. By gas-liquid chromatography, however, butyric acid was detected neither in the needles and roots of P. densiflora nor in soil of P. densiflora forests.
