Beta galactosidase from sugarcane saccharum officinarum

Beta galactosidase from sugarcane saccharum officinarum

Phytochemistry (Oxford) 20(1): 49-52

ISSN/ISBN: 0031-9422

.beta.-Galactosidase activity occurs in all organs of the sugarcane plant and is of general occurrence among different cultivars and species. Most activity was associated with the cell wall and only .apprx. 12-16% was an intracellular form. Both activities possess similar optimum pH and Km, both are activated by Mn2+ and ethanol and inhibited by Hg2+ and both attack the same substrates.
