The relative biological activities of GA3-7-aldehyde and GA3-7-alcohol in the dwarf pea bioassay were 0.1 and 0.005% as compared to GA3 (100%). The 6-methyl analog of GA3 was completely inactive. Modification of the 6-carboxyl group in gibberellin drastically reduces the biological activity. When applied to the plumula of 7 day old pea seedlings [14C]GA3 and [3H]GA3-7-aldehyde were translocated in a similar manner all over the plant, including roots and youngest leaves. Within 10 days a limited conversion into conjugates occurred. An oxidation of GA3-7-aldehyde to GA3 seemed to be of minor importance.
