Two series of hydrochlorides of 2,1-benzisothiazol-3-carboxylic acid were tested for their phytotoxicity against 3 test plants (Triticum vulgare L., Cucuris sativus L. and Pisum sativum L.). The presence of a strongly hydrophilic group decreased the phytotoxic power, compared with that of analogs but less H2O-soluble amides. The esters were relatively more active than the amides.
