The auxin-like activity and the phytotoxicity of 2,1-benzisothiazol-3-acetic acid, its methyl and ethyl esters, and ethyl 2,1-benzisothiazol-3-acetate, were tested. Only the acid and its methyl ester showed slight auxin-like properties; the ester was more active. The phytotoxic properties were tested against some representative plants [Sorghum vulgare, Cucumis sativus, Hordeum hexasticum, Linum usitatissimum, Pisum sativum]: these properties are selective and greater for the methyl ester, but do not reach significant values. The tested substances are inactive in vitro against Candida albicans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
