Boron deficiency in relation to growth and thio cyanate toxin content of radish raphanus sativus cultivar burpee white

Contents of ionic thiocyanate, chlorophyll and reducing sugars were determined in foliage and root of 'Burpee White' radishes (R. sativus L.) grown hydroponically in modified Hoagland's solution at 5 concentrations (0, 0.1, 0.5, 2.5 or 10.0 mg l-1 B. Induced B-deficient radishes (0 mg l-1 B) showed reduced growth, increased content of ionic thiocyanate in both foliage and root, decreased chlorophyll content of foliage and altered distribution of reducing sugars. Perhaps B regulates the synthesis or accumulation of thiocyanate-yielding precursors.
