About 22 calcareous nannofossils along with a few re-worked coccoliths of the Cretaceous and Tertiary, and discoasters of the Neogene are present in a core collected from the continental slope in the Arabian sea. Two biostratigraphic zones, Gephyrocapsa oceanica and Emiliania huxleyi, were encountered. The re-worked deposits may be attributed to the Indus river which drains a part of the Cretaceous and Tertiary formations in western India, or to derivation from outcrops on the continental slope.
