Abstract
The calcareous nannofossil assemblages are described from a sequence of closely spaced samples from the Gredero section, covering the Cretaceous/Tertiary boundary interval. An emended zonation for this interval is proposed. Additional evidence is given of provincialism and diachronous appearance levels of species in the Late Maastrichtian and Danian. Climatic deterioration plays an important role in the model which is presented to explain the terminal Cretaceous event.
