Piglets were provided with various sources of vegetable carbohydrates. Using quantitative and qualitative analysis, digestive tract, stomach and intestinal changes including amylase activity and acidity were studied. In swine, fermentation in the large intestine and stomach is intensive and total acid concentration equaled the acid level found in sheep paunch. Carbohydrate transformation into organic acids shows that final digestion and carbohydrate absorption is determined as the state of microbial digestion.
