Cerebro spinal fluid vasopressin in benign intra cranial hypertension

Neurology 32(11): 1255-1259

The concentration of vasopressin in CSF of 10 patients with benign intracranial hypertension (BIH) and 28 patients with lumbar or cervical pain syndromes was measured. Mean CSF vasopressin concentration was significantly higher in patients with benign intracranial hypertension (2.2 .+-. 0.3 pg/ml) than in controls (1.3 .+-. 0.1 pg/ml) (P < 0.05). The elevated CSF vasopressin level in BIH could be the result of the increased intracranial pressure, tending to reduce pressure by reducing CSF formation rate or by increasing CSF water reabsorption.
