Study of age and growth of pike glassfish, Champsocephalus gunnari (Channichthyidae)

C. gunnari age and growth were described on the basis of data on growth zones on its otoliths and vertebrae. The data obtained were compared with data from the literature on this species from the same area (South Georgia, Great Britain [UK]) of the South Atlantic. C. gunnari growth was 5 cm/yr in the 1st yr of life, before the onset of sexual maturity. In the following years C. gunnari growth gradually decreased. Male growth rate was higher than female growth rate. C. gunnari reached sexual maturity in the 4th yr of life.
