Changes in humus content and composition in the course of birch replacement by spruce on old ploughed soils in yaroslavl oblast russian sfsr ussr

Changes in humus content and composition in the course of birch replacement by spruce on old ploughed soils in yaroslavl oblast russian sfsr ussr

Pochvovedenie (9): 110-118

The organic matter in a sod-weakly-podzolic old-ploughed soil is shown to get accumulated and changes in relation to the tree species kind. The renewal of humic acids in a field soil is influenced by roots and their decomposition products within the 5 - 10 cm zone. The same process in forest soils goes on constantly on the contact between forest litter and mineral soil. The organic matter content in soil depends entirely on the existing vegetation and exchange processes between plants and soil.
