Changes in immunoglobulin g immunoglobulin a and immunoglobulin m in children with bronchial asthma with respect to the clinical course and the corticosteroid treatment of the disease

Pediatria Polska 62(5): 296-302

In 103 children with bronchial asthma values of IgG, IgA and IgM were determined three times during acute exacerbations of the disease. An analysis was carried out of immunoglobulin levels depending on the length and severity of disease exacerbation, presence of infection, coexistence of other allergic diseases and corticosteroid therapy. A tendency was observed for an increase in immunoglobulin levels with increasing intensity of obturative signs and after their disappearance. A more severe and longer disease course was correlated with higher levels of IgG and IgA in successive determinations. Longer corticosteroid therapy caused normalization of previously raised immunoglobulin levels. Respiratory infections and coexistence of other allergic diseases had no statistically significant effect on the determined parameters of humoral immunity.
