Changes in the physiological and biochemical characteristics of common wheat mutants induced by chemical mutagens depending on the spectral light composition

The use of Xe lamps (variant II) as the source of irradiation hastened plant growth and development by 7-14 days and resulted in a decrease in the content of all pigments irrespective of the genotype of the plants. Differences in the content of chlorophyll in the mutants and the initial variety were significant in variant I (luminescent lamps + incandescent lamps) and were slight in variant II; differences in the content of carotenoids were irregular. Absolute values of most quantitative characteristics decreased significantly in variant II. Variation of characteristics was more pronounced in variant I. The stem length and especially the absolute grain weight did not differ in the variants; the 1000-kernel weight remained typical of each genotype.
