Changes in the side chain group ionization pattern of proteins during fatigue in isolated gastrocnemius muscle of frog rana hexadactyla

Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of normal and fatigued muscle extracts of R. hexadactyla showed 2 slow moving and 4 relatively fast moving protein fraction. In the fatigued muscle all the fractions showed a decrease in density and variation in electrophoretic mobility. Titrimetric analysis showed decrease in acidic and basic groups. Protease activity was found to increase by 60% in the fatigued muscle. The relevance of these changes is discussed in relation to side chain group ionization pattern of proteins in fatigued muscle.
