Characteristics of the absorption of calcium potassium and sodium in the radish raphanus sativus cultivar rond alpha gros bout blanc relation to tolerance and salinity

Adsorption and absorption of mineral elements (K, Ca and Na ions) are examined in excised radish roots whose threshold of sensitivity to salinity during germination is 200 mM NaCl. The Na saturation capacity of this moderately tolerant plant is equal to that of K, but the rate of entry of Na (under the influence of the accompanying anion) is always lower than that of K at any given salt concentration. The specificity of the single transport agent of the 2 monovalent ions is discussed based on the results obtained on the nature of the interactions between K+ and Ca2+ and on the basis of the action of the protons or of the hydroxides on the absorptions of K+ and Na+, respectively. A large accumulation component of Na in the free space is suggested.
