Characteristics of the spawning population of the cisco coregonus albula from lake ladoga russian sfsr ussr

Structure of the spawning population of C. albula L., linear and weight growth and fertility of the skerry population are studied on 1329 specimens. The skerry population inhabits a wide area of the northern and northwestern part of the lake, where it forages in numerous bays and straits and near the islands of an open part of the lake. Cisco growth is determined by feeding and thermal conditions and by the size of a population. Spawning population (1969, 1971-1973) is represented by ciscos older than 1 yr and younger than 9 yr. Older fish are seldom found. A cisco from the skerry population becomes sexually mature at 2 yr, body length at 8.0-12.3 (10.9) cm and weight at 5.7-14.0 (10.4) g. Fertility varied from 761-9405 eggs depending on the year. Spawning is annual and occurs from the 2nd half of Oct. to the first 10 days of Nov., when water temperature is 5.3-3.4.degree. C.
