Chemical and immunochemical studies of polysaccharides in corynebacterium michiganense ssp insidiosum 1589

Two acid polysaccharides are isolated in homogeneous state from cells of Corynebacterium michiganense subsp. insidiosum 1589. They are characterized by the analogous qualitative monomeric composition but differ in quantitative content of pyruvic acid. Tetrasaccharide is established to be a repeating link of polysaccharides consisting of two residues of L-rhamnose and two residues of D-galactose, one of which is replaced by pyruvic acid. The serological activity of polysaccharides is shown in the quantitative precipitation test with homologous antiserum.
