Chemical and mineralogical composition of soils of the central balkan mountains bulgaria and the eastern rhodopes bulgaria greece

Chemical and mineralogical composition of soils of the central balkan mountains bulgaria and the eastern rhodopes bulgaria greece

Pochvoznanie Agrokhimiya i Rastitelna Zashtita 21(6): 3-11

The results are reported from a study on the chemical and mineralogical composition of a pseudopodzolic brown forest soil and a mountain meadow soil which illustrate the vertical zonation of the area of the town of Troyan in the Central Balkan Mountains, and of undeveloped soils the AC-horizon of which overlies various parent rocks in the area of the town of Kurdjali in the Eastern Rhodopes. The occurrence of destructive processes has been observed in the pseudopodzolic soil and in the undeveloped strongly acid soil under forest vegetation. The differences noted in the geochemical characteristics of chemical elements and the mineralogical and chemical composition of the studied soils both within and between the two areas examined have been attributed to their being formed under different climatic and geological and petrographic conditions. The dry climate is a cause for more weak expressend processes of migration and contemporary weathering and transformation taking place in this region.
