The fauna of ciliates in dry mosses on the territory of the city of Bratislava was investigated; 58 Ciliophora species were found in 15 localities. The differences observed in the occurrence of individual species could have been due to air pollution or differences in rainfall. The changes were manifested in both qualitative and quantitative composition of the fauna of ciliates. In exposed localities, its quality decreased but the abundance of ciliates increased; moreover, the ciliates showed there an increased incidence of morphological abnormities.
