Clinical and nutritional anthropometric study in boys playing soccer

Clinical and nutritional anthropometric study in boys playing soccer

Medicina dello Sport 39(1): 35-44

An anthropometric, clinical and nutritional study was condicted on 196 children, aged 8.1 to 11, all engaged in a football training program envolving sufficiently frequent, intense and continuous weekly sessions. The anthropometric measurements included: the Body Mass Index (BMI), body density (D) and percentage of the fat mass (fat %), some diameters, static and dynamic lung volumes and the dynamometric evidence of some muscle groups. For the clinical investigation we have taken into account the familiar, personal, physiologic and pathologic anamnestic evidence as well as the general clinical examination and complete urine test. The cardiological assessment consisted of the evaluation of the specific familiar and personal anamnestic evidence and of the physical examination, ECG and rest and after 3' step-test and ECO examination. The nutritional investigation was carried out by using the "Recall" food-interview. The total daily energetic consumption and the specific contribution of the different nutrients were evaluated. The Authors' aim in evaluating the different parameters was to investigate the correlation between physical and functional parameters, the most significant elements of the general clinical conditions and the cardiovascular conditions in particular, and the eating habits in a group of subjects of the same age, sex and physical activity program.
