Combined applications of nuclear polyhedral virus and bacillus thuringiensis for control of the nun moth lymantria monacha lepidoptera

Application of nuclear polyhedral virus (NPV) at a normal dosage (106 polyhedrals/ml) mixed with sublethal doses of B. thuringiensis (3.75 .times. 106 spores/ml) resulted in a higher mortality of nun moth larvae than the single pathogens. Larvae treated with the pathogen combination of NPV + B. thuringiensis fed enough to get an infection with virus, but feeding activity decreased and growth was diminished. Shortening the incubation period of the virus disease could not be achieved by addition of B. thuringiensis, but defoliation of the trees was significantly reduced.
