The adult hybrid female duck 9-15 mo old had an ovary which was different from that of the parent species. Its almost lack of follicles and sterile areas without germinal elements were present. The histochemistry (detection of a 3.beta.-HSDH [hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase] and a 17.beta.-HSDH which takes part in the steroidogenesis) enabled the identification of 2 dirrerent cellular types which were identical to those described in the Peking and Barbary duck. One of these types was the basis for the 3.beta.-HSDH activity, the other was the basis for 17.beta.-HSDH activity. The modification in the ovary structure due to hybridation produced qunatitative changes and the localization of htese 2 cellular types, but it did not prevent their activity, the basis for sexual hormones.
