Computed tomographic evaluation of the orbit and sella turcica an atlas of anatomic computed tomography correlation

Computed tomographic evaluation of the orbit and sella turcica an atlas of anatomic computed tomography correlation

Nippon Ganka Gakkai Zasshi 85(8): 1036-1045

The gross anatomy of the orbit and sella turcica were correlated with their appearance on CT [computed tomography] images. The heat of an embalmed human cadaver was scanned in axial and coronal planes according to Reid's base line, using the GE CT/T 8800 scanner with 1.5 mm collimation. The technqie of ReView target reconstruction was applied. The cadaver was sectioned in axial and coronal planes 2-3 mm slices. The appearance of the orbit and sella turcica in various axial and coronal sections, was analyzed and the anatomic and CT appearances were correlated in corresponding planes. Based on the analysis of extraocular muscles and optic nerve, judgements regarding their size should be based only on true cross sections, 90.degree. to the course of the individual muscle or optic nerve.
