Contribution to the biology of the american cotton leafworm alabama argillacea lepidoptera noctuidae

Different biological aspects of A. argillacea were determined in this study. The incubation period of the egg stage varied from 2-5 days. The high temperature and humidity favor development. The larval stage, containing 6 distinct instars, lasted from 11.55 .+-. 0.11 to 22.49 .+-. 0.17 days. The pupal stage lasted from 7.87 .+-. 0.06 to 13.33 .+-. 0.1 days, while the adult from 10.87 .+-. 0.33 to 26.81 .+-. 0.43 days, and the whole life cycle from 35.3 .+-. 0.4 to 66.74 .+-. 0.74 days, depending upon the existing temperature and relative humidity. The adult female deposited a great number of eggs varying between 422 .+-. 52.7 to 596 .+-. 61.2 during the oviposition period.
