Contribution to the study of albumin and prolamin contents in the grain of new winter wheat varieties

In homogenized grain of selected winter wheat varieties representing the descendants of crossing of L-247/69 x Aurora /F10/, /'Jansen 43' x 'Washington 19'/ x TP-114 /F6/ and /'Nadadore x x 'Aurora'/ x TP-114 /F6/ the following data were determined: total nitrogen, albumin- and prolamin-nitrogen contents, contents of wet gluten and its swelling capacity, and sedimentation testing. Varieties with higher albumin contents /mainly the descendants of L-247 x Aurora / showed lower yields compared to those with higher prolamin contents. Apparently, successful cultivation targeted on higher nutrition values of the winter wheat grain proteins would require the determination, based upon fodder dosage balance calculations, of the lowest differences between individual protein fraction contents of two cultivars in order to show statistically significant values expressed in increases or in production data at least in one animal category.
