Control of brinjal flea beetle psylliodes tenebrosus with certain organo phosphorus insecticides

Eight organophosphorus insecticides were sprayed on brinjal, variety Pusa Purple long, to control the flea beetle, P. tenebrosus Jacoby under field conditions. The insecticides included monocrotophos (0.04%), phosphamidon (0.03%), malathion (0.1%), phosalone (0.05%), vamidothion (0.05%), formothion (0.04%), quinalphos (0.025%) and dichlorvos (0.05%). All the insecticides reduced flea beetle infestation, but malathion was least effective. Their effectiveness in descending order was: monocrotophos, dichlorvos, formothion, phosphamidon, vamidothion, phosalone, quinalphos and malathion. Three applications of the insecticides at fortnightly intervals gave full control of the pest.
