The nematode, D. siricidicola Bedding, which sterilizes adult female S. noctilio F. and is regarded as the most important control agent of the woodwasp in North Island, was successfully introduced into several South Island forests. It is well established in the northern parts of Nelson Conservancy and has spread to forests where it was not introduced. In Canterbury Conservancy it was recovered from 2 of the 6 forests in which it was introduced and in Southland Conservancy from 5 of 8 forests. Methods for introductions and establishment checks are detailed.
