Correlation between the heat resistance of the organism and fertility in hydra oligactis and asellus aquaticus

During the cultivation of a number of families of A. aquaticus and H. oligactis under constant and optimal conditions a statistically significant positive correlation was found between the number of individuals in a family or clone and the average level of heat resistance. In A. aquaticus such a relation is characteristic of females but not of males. The rise in environmental temperature and a change in the hormonal state of animals caused by molting and reproduction results in a change in the selective range due to non-uniform changes in the organismal heat resistance of the progeny of different families or clones. Under discussion is the elaboration of methods of artificial selection of animals for increased organismal heat resistance with an aim of their acclimatization in fish ponds using warm waters of thermal discharge. Suggested is a number of methods enabling the study of genetic correlations between certain physiological characters which might be of importance in aquaculture.
