During the 2 yr of a fodder crop [a pea-grass mixture] rotation (1980-1981), the highest yields occurred with the application on average of 115N62P127K (12 metric centners of standard mineral fertilizers) per hectare, alone and combined with 17 tons of farmyard manure. In 1981 under irrigation, the effective rate was not only the above rate of mineral fertilizers, but also 170N102P198K (19 metric centners of standard mineral fertilizers) combined with 17 tons of farmyard manure. In this case, the productivity of 1 ha with fertilization without irrigation averaged 6.1-6.7 thousand fodder U; under irrigation it was 7.7-9.8 thousand fodder U. Higher rates of fertilization resulted in higher protein content in barley grain and lower starch content in potato tubers. Additional application of organic fertilizers after mineral ones, stopped to a certain extent, the reduction of starch content.
