Abstract
Pheasant's Eye, a triploid variety of N. poeticus, has larger flowers than diploid Red Rim. Comparison of chromosome complements of the 2 cultivars suggests that the fundamental karyotype of different morphoforms of the species is quite uniform. Karyomorphological similarity of the 3 genomes and preponderance of trivalent configurations at meiosis suggest that Pheasant's Eye is an autotriploid variety.
