Development of shell inner skeleton in coenothyris vulgaris and some representatives of dielasmatidae brachiopoda terebratulida a comparison

Development of shell inner skeleton in coenothyris vulgaris and some representatives of dielasmatidae brachiopoda terebratulida a comparison

Przeglad Zoologiczny 29(2): 159-166

The author compares the development of inner skeleton elements (brachidium, hinge elements, tooth plates) in the shells of Coenothyris vulgaris (Schlotheim) and some other representatives of Dieasmatidae. Differences observed (different rates of appearance of skeleton elements, duration time of stages) are within intra-specific variability. Similarities are as follows: sequence of development stages of brachial apparatus, structure of loop in different growth stages, shortening of relative length of loop in course of dorsal shell growth. Study of postembryonic development of Coenothyris vulgaris was possible due to the fact that the only Polish locality (Dziewkowice, near Strzelce Opolskie) with juvenile and subadult specimens of this species had been found.
