Development of stromal cell colonies in bone marrow cell culture

Maintenance of proliferating [mouse] hemopoietic stem cells in vitro was achieved by adding bone marrow cells on the adherent cell colonies formed by a 3-wk culture of primary bone marrow cells. The idea was based on a hypothesis that the formation of such adherent cell colonies requires close cell-to-cell interaction.
